Local authorities have confirmed that human remains were discovered on Monday, March 1, off Joliff Bridge Road in rural Centralia.
The remains were reportedly found when a Cinton County Jail employee who was hunting shed antlers. His daughter who was with him at the time came across a human skull, and police arrived on scene just before 2:30 p.m.
After officials searched the area, they found more than 30 human bone before night fall. The remains were turned over to the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigators for testing. The results could take up to one month to be completed.
