For the first time in nearly a year, Washington County Health Department reports no new COVID cases

The Washington County Health Department reported no new COVID-19 cases over the weekend, according to a press release announced Monday.

The WCHD reported the county’s current statistics include three active and one active hospitalization. Other county stats include 1,575 released from isolation, 66 total hospitalized and 28 deaths (18 active, 9 released, 1 untested).

The Washington County EMA shared the news on its Facebook page, stating it was the first time since April that there were no positive cases to report. There is hope that he break in winter weather, and recent celebrations like the DuBois Polish Parade, do not lead to more spread of the virus.

“Keep up the great work,” the post said. “CDC has announced that if you have had vaccines you may be in larger groups of others that have had both shots without wearing a mask. They still recommend wearing them in public in groups if there are those that have not received both.”

The Illinois Department of Public Health stated that the test positivity rate for the area is 5.3 percent with 244 tests performed between Feb. 21 and 27.
