The Illinois State Police has issued an alert looking for a suspect following the murder of a 19-year-old Harrisburg woman earlier this week.
According to the state police, the Division of Criminal investigation – Zone 8 has identified Alexander McWilliams, 36, of Harrisburg as a suspect in the shooting death of Mishealia M. Meredith. McWilliam is described as 5’10” black man weighing about 215 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He is considered armed and dangerous.
Meredith’s body was discovered in rural field in Gallatin County. Gallatin County Coroner Tony Cox said autopsy results revealed that she died of a gunshot wound to the head. Other toxicology test results are still pending.
According published reports, Meredith was a student at Southeastern Illinois College. She was last seen on Friday evening at around 7 p.m. She also reportedly called her mom to tell her she was walking home before her disappearance.
McWilliams has a criminal record. He was released from Menard Corrections Facility in Chester in October 2020. He also has had multiple criminal convictions in Saline County, including criminal trespassing and aggravated battery.
Individuals with knowledge of his whereabouts are urged not to approach McWilliams but instead call the authorities. Anyone with information is asked to contact the state police at (618) 542-2171.
