Mt. Vernon teen arrested after high speed chase

Police apprehended a 16-year-old Mt. Vernon juvenile after a lengthy car chase late Sunday night that began in Nashville and continued through several communities in Jefferson County.

Nashville police were looking for a car that was identified in a felony theft of liquor from the Roll n Up, when the vehicle crossed over into Jefferson County. Sheriff Deputy Blaine Uhls said his department picked up on the pursuit as it wounded into Mt. Vernon onto interstates 64 and 57. The pursuit was up to 105 miles per hour and went as far north as Dix. Stop sticks were placed on 28th Street near Veterans Memorial Drive, and the car reportedly swerved to avoid them, blowing a tire when it hit a curve.

The chase reportedly ended with all five of the occupants jumped out of the vehicle when it was near SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital and the car crashed into two Mt. Vernon Police squad cars.

The driver was taken to the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center pending a court date. None of the other occupants were arrested.
