The second week in the shortened spring football season saw the Nashville Hornets soar to the second spot, according to the River Radio Southern Illinois Football Coaches’ Poll.
The Hornets had been previously ranked at number four when they took on the #5 ranked Carterville this past weekend. The come from behind victory secured the increase in ranking.
According to 103.5 ESPN, the top teams in the region as voted by the coaches are:

- Nashville
- Benton
- Fairfield
- Centralia
- Carbondale
- Carterville
- DuQuoin
- Mt. Carmel
- Herrin
In the state, Nashville ranked number 8 in the weekly AP rankings among Class 2A teams.
The Hornets take on the Mater Dei Knights in a clash of the titans-type match on Saturday in Breese.
