Officials said on Wednesday that Illinois had reached a milestone metric with 70 percent of residents who are 65 and older now having received at least one of the COVID-19 vaccine doses.
Even so, they also made it clear that while hospital admissions continue to rise, further restrictions will be in place. Illinois has seen an increase in the number of positive COVID-19 cases. There were 2,592 new cases on Wednesday, with 28 additional deaths.
Washington County Health Department reported one new case on Tuesday — a female in her 20s. There are currently three active in the county and zero active hospitalizations.
To date there has been 1,620 positive cases since March 2020.
