Nashville Community High School standout Buzz Ritzel signed to play basketball for the Illinois College Blueboys.
In a statement Ritzel posted to Twitter, he said he was excited to “further my academic and athletic career.”
“I would first like to thank my family, friends and teammates for supporting me with my dreams, especially in the last year during the pandemic,” Ritzel said. “Next I would like to thank my first coach Dan Kueper, all the coaches who helped shape me throughout middle school, Coach Pel, Coach Weather, Coach Guest, Coach Cruser, Coach O’Rear, Coach Harre, Coach Barrington, Freddy Goforth and Trainer Tony. A special thank to Alicia Heggemeier for being the best HS AD there is.”
Ritzel also said that he could not have achieved his goals without the help of his dad, who coached him from the time he was little.
“I am very excited to play for Coach Schweer, Coach Jay and Coach Malik for the next four years. I am truly blessed.”
Ritzel was named to the SIRR Mississippi All-Conference Team.
