Nashville’s bats came alive in the fourth, and the Hornettes were able to stave off two potential comebacks to close out the first home game of the season over the Belleville East Lancers.
Belleville started out putting three runs on the board in the first inning and one each in the third and fourth to jump out to an early 5-0 lead. All that changed when Colleen Jahnke’s double and Jill Kuhl’s single brought Nashville’s first scores. Emme Paszkiewicz also had a single RBI
Cayla Krueger’s triple finished off the scoring spree with two more RBIs to bring Nashville its first lead, 5-6.
Belleville would make a comeback in the sixth when a home run would bring in two runs, enough for the Lancers to retake the lead. The Hornettes would answer back the same inning with a Jordan Donato’s sacrifice fly and succeeding RBI and a single with a RBI by Valerie Combs.
Starting pitcher Josie Woodrome pitched all seven innings. She had three strikeouts in the game.
The Hornettes are now 3-0 on the season after defeating Waltonville on Monday and securing victory over Mascoutah on Thursday (11-8) in eight innings. For the Mascoutah game, Woodrome was the winning pitcher. Combs had three hits, and several Hornettes had two each, including Woodrome, Ryan Stiegman, Jill Kuhl, Colleen Jahnke and Paszkiewicz.
Jahnke had a three run home run and Kuhl followed with a two-run blast of her own in the victory.
