Authorities say a 29-year-old Nashville man was found in a fuel tanker trailer in Buckley.
Coroner Bill Cheatum told WCIA that two truck drivers discovered the body between 9:30 and 10 a.m. at a gas transfer hub just outside of the Buckley city limits. The drivers had claimed that they had issues unloading gas from the tanker over the past couple days, and they had opened the tank to investigate the issue.
According to WAND Channel 17, the Iroquois County Sheriff’s Office was called to the 300 block of East 800 North Road on Saturday morning after the discovery of a body. The Paxton, Buckley and Urbana fire departments also responded, and The Illinois State Police Crime Scene assisted.
Investigators later identified Garrett Meyer. An autopsy was conducted Saturday in Champaign County, and toxicology results are pending.
Cheatum had said he could not comment on how long Meyer had been in the tank or if foul play was suspected. The investigation is ongoing.
Meyer was a graduate of Nashville Community High School.
