Emergency personnel responded to a semi tractor fire on Sunday morning, which caused a backup in traffic for miles along the highway.
The Illinois State Police said units were called at 9:45 a.m. to the Interstate 64 eastbound lanes at mile marker 58 in Washington County, close to the Centralia and Ashley exit.

ISP Public Information Officer Trooper Jayme. Bufford told the Mt. Vernon Sentinel that the fire had been caused by a tire blowout. The trailer then became fully involved.
No injuries were reported.
The driver indicated that he had pulled over to the shoulder when saw smoke. All occupants were safely out of the cab by the time the authorities had arrived, according to scanner traffic.
