A 27-year-old man from Kingwood, TX, was pronounced dead after a three-vehicle accident early Saturday morning on Interstate 64, police said.
According to the Illinois State Police, the man was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of the interstate at 2:23 a.m. near the 81.5 mile marker in Jefferson County when the vehicle sideswiped a white 1990 Ford Ranger driven by Robert W. Allison, 42, of Fairfield.
The first vehicle then continued westbound and sideswiped a 2019 Blue Peterbilt Truck Tractor Semi-Trailer driven by Tonya L. Lovette, a 37-year-old female from Albany, GA. The wrong-way car then rolled and left the roadway until it stopped in the grass median.
The Texas man was pronounced dead on the scene by Jefferson County Coroner Roger D. Hayse. Allison and a passenger in his truck were taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Lovette was reportedly not injured in the accident.
The identity of the driver is not being released at this time.
