A 33-year-old Benton man was killed in a motorcycle accident on Illinois Route 127 on Sunday morning.
According to Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger, the office was dispatched to the scene of the one-vehicle accident. Brandon Metcalf was traveling northbound on 127 at Mississippi Road at 9:36 a.m. when the Harley Davidson motorcycle he was driving struck a guardrail on the east side of the road.
Metcalf was thrown from the motorcycle and landed approximately 35 yards from the point of impact. He was not wearing a helmet and suffered massive head injuries. Styninger said Metcalf was pronounced dead at the scene.
Styninger said the cause of death was massive head trauma, and manner was an accident.
Toxicology samples were taken by the coroner’s office, which will be submitted for routine test. No autopsy or inquest will be conducted.
The accident remains under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the coroner’s office. Other responding agencies include the Nashville Fire and Police departments.
