WCHD: More new COVID-19 cases reported

The Washington County Health Department reported 19 new COVID-19 cases that have been reported over the past two days.

The residents include three ages 6-10 years old; one who is between 11 and 15 years old; one who is 16-19 years old; one in their 20s; four in their 30s; two in their 60s; and two in their 80s.

Over the weekend, the WCHD reported 19 new cases. The department also reiterated the new mask mandated policy for all residents over the age of 2 years old as a way to combat the spread of the virus.

“Hospitals and health care providers are seeing a higher volume of severe illness to a point of having limited staff and resources available for any medical situation that arises,” the department said.

The Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus has caused significant increases in case loads throughout Southern Illinois.
