The mother of a local toddler who was hospitalized with COVID has reported that her child has been released. Tiffany Jackson of Mt. Vernon told Reuters in a text message that she was “so, so happy” to be home.

The almost 3-year-old from southern Illinois was airlifted to SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in early October and was on a ventilator for several days. Irvington Grade School announced that Beth Ballantini, a first and second grade teacher, is one of six recipients of the 2021 IARSS Raising Student Achievement Conference Scholarship from the Regional Office of Education #13. “Beth is being recognized for being an outstanding educator in our region and she will receive a scholarship to attend the prestigious Raising Student Achievement Convention in the Chicago area in December,” the school said.

The Washington County Historical Society Board of Directors announced that the barn located on the Magenalker-Blumhorst Family Farm as a historic site. “From our research, we believe this barn to be the oldest standing barn in the county,” the society said on its Facebook page. “It is unique in that it is a very large drive through barn. It is still utilized in the day to day operations of the farm, but most importantly, houses many animals living on the farm.” The historical marker will help bring awareness in honoring the German heritage in the county, educate about the Plum Hill area in the county and continue to draw county residents and tourists. The WCHS is planning to present Alan Blumhorst, who owns and operates Rainbow Ranch, a historical marker to be placed on the barn sometime in the near future.
Nashville Middle School will have the following cross country runners competing in the SIJHSAA Class L state finals: Jessica Malone, Jacie Ellis, Autumn Taylor, Josie Lupachini, Gavin Birkner and Brayden Donato. The state meet in Saturday at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.
