Longtime County Board member dies

Washington County Board member Vic Shubert died on Tuesday. He was 71.

Shubert was first elected to the board in November 1999, representing District 3. He had currently served on the Ambulance Committee, Environmental, EMA and Zoning Committee and Personnel, Appointments and Policy Committee. He was also a member of the Finance Committee, Planning Commission and the Solid Waste Committee.

Shubert was also a retired dairy and grain farmer, according to his obituary. He raised ostriches and was the founder of The Illinois Ostrich Foundation.

County officials expressed their condolences.

“Vic was a great guy and sat on the County Board for many many years,” EMA Administrator Matt Bierman said. “He was the Chairman of the EMA/Zoning committee for many of the years he was on the Board. Obituary can be found at end of post. RIP my friend and thank you for all the years of service you gave to the County and to the EMA/Zoning Office.”
