The Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association announced its 2022 postseason this week for both the boys and girls junior high basketball series.
In the girls’ Class M category, Nashville Middle School will be the host, this time for Region 8. Other schools in the bracket will be Fairfield, Rome and Wayne City. The winner of the Nashville regional will play the winner of the Pinckneyville regional.
In Class S, St. Ann-Oakdale and Trinity St. John-Immanuel Lutheran will both play in the regional at Tamaroa Grade School. Other teams include Desoto, Elverado, Pinckneyville 204, Steeleville-St. Mark’s and host Tamaroa-St. Bruno.
Okawville is to play at St. John’s Lutheran in Red Bud. The regional teams include Holy Childhood (Mascoutah), New Athens Junior High, St. James-Notre Dame, St. John Catholic-Trinity Lutheran, St. Joe-Freeburg, St. Libory and Valmeyer.
Regionals for all classes will be held Jan. 11-18. Winners will head to Rend Lake College for the state tournament, which starts Jan. 21.
For the boys Class M bracket, Nashville Junior Hornets will have home court advantage as the middle school hosts Region 7. Other teams in the regional include Breese District 12, Carlyle Junior High and Central City School.
In Class S, St. Ann-Oakdale and TSJ head to Pinckneyville 204 for Region 5. Their opponents include the host, Elverado, St. Andrew in Murphysboro and Tamaroa St. Bruno. Okawville Junior High is the host for Region 8 with Albers-Damiansville, Germantown, Holy Childhood and St. Joseph also competing.
The boys regional will start on Jan. 25. The state tournament will also be played at Rend Lake, beginning Feb. 4.
