Four Hornettes receive All-South honors

The Southern Illinois Coaches Association announced on Wednesday its 2021 All-South selections, and a quartet of Nashville Hornettes has been given the honors.

The Hornettes include:

  • Hitter Hazel Konkel, senior. She finished the season with .384 hitting percentage and hammered down 367 kills. She also had 121 blocks, 19 aces and 159 digs.
  • Setter Emily Schnitker, senior. She finished the year with 735 assists, 258 digs and 35 aces.
  • Hitter Reese Varel, junior. She had a .288 hitting percentage this year and finished with 225 kills and 77 blocks.
  • Libero Daci Finke, junior. She completed 386 digs and served 45 aces.

Konkel, Schnitker, Varel and Finke were also all named to the all-conference team.

Nashville finished the year 32-6 overall and 5-3 in the SIRR conference. In addition to winning the regional, the Hornettes were also voted the third-best team in the Deep South Coaches Poll.
