Authorities are looking for a couple of suspects involved in an early morning high-speed chase that started in Centralia and ended southeast of Irvington.
According to WJBD, a Marion County Sheriff’s deputy attempted a traffic stop after a vehicle was clocked in at traveling 113 miles per hour on Route 161 near Byars Road. The pursuit continued to Crestwood Lane when the vehicle turned around and headed back to Route 161 before traveling eastbound until it reached Interstate 57.
The chase continued south on the interstate, and the vehicle crossed the median and traveled southbound in the northbound lanes, narrowly missing collisions with other motorists. The vehicle then drove through a construction zone before taking the exit to Dix-Irvington Road.
Police say the chase continued westbound on Richview Road, south on Grand Road and north on Pisque Lane before pulling into a driveway. From there two suspects fled on foot and have yet to be located, according to police.
Other responding agencies included Washington County and Jefferson County deputies, the Illinois State Police and the Mt. Vernon K-9 unit.
