Jefferson County deputy honored with Medal of Honor

Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Bullard presented deputy David May with the Sheriff’s Office Medal of Valor in front of the county board.

May received a standing ovation for his act of heroism that he demonstrated on Oct. 26. May saved the life of a Jefferson County corrections officer after an attempted escape from the courthouse.

“Well done, Deputy May!” the post said. “You make us all proud! Wear that medal with pride and know without a doubt you made a difference for good in this world.”

The Illinois State Police released video of the incident.
