The Nashville Jr. Hornettes rolled to victory Friday night, winning 41-18 over the Anna Lady Indians and claiming third place during the SIJHSAA Class M State Tournament.
Nashville led the entire game, jumping out in front 11-4 after the first quarter. Stellar on both sides of the ball, the Hornettes used a full court press to force Anna to turnover the ball 14 times. The Lady Indians had a total of 24 turnovers during the entire game.
Nashville went on to lead at the half 27-6 before putting the game away in the second half.
Two Nashville players finished in double figures. Leading all scorers, Makayla Gajewski went 6 for 11 from the field and four for seven from the free throw line for 16 points. She also had 8 rebounds in the game.
Emma Behrmann shot 4 for 14 from the field and 2 for 2 from the free throw line for 10 points. Belle Schmale added seven. Brynn Stiegman, Aubrey Rhine, Anessa Boldrey and Ava Donato each had two points.
The Road back to Rend Lake: Jr. Hornettes finished the season 25-2 and were back-to-back regional champs (last year there was no state tournament due to COVID concerns, but Nashville posted its first undefeated season).
