Winter storm hits area, more snow expected

A second blast of winter weather is expected to hit the area overnight and into Thursday, which is caused several cancellations for the end of the week.

Washington County Chairman David Meyer announced that all non-essential Washington County offices will be closed on Thursday due to the inclement weather. Emergency services and road crews will be in operation. A decision on Friday hours will be made on Thursday evening after the situation is re-evaluated, according to the Washington County EMA.

Other closures include Nashville District 49 and Community High School, Trinity St. John School and St. Ann.

The National Weather Service predicts heavy mixed precipitation for portions of south central and Southern Illinois, including sleet and between 4 and 9 inches of snow. Ice accumulations could also reach up to one tenth of an inch.
