The county saw a decrease in the number of overdose and traffic accident deaths in 2021.
Coroner Mark Styninger recently released figures from his annual report. The Washington County Coroner’s Office responded to 24 scenes in 2021. There were 92 natural deaths and four accidental. Those accidental deaths include one motor vehicle accident, two drug overdoses and one death by house fire. There were also no suicide or homicide deaths.
Styninger also stated that there were two autopsies performed and four total toxicology tests performed.
In 2020, the county coroner office responded to a total of 125 calls, with 113 being considered natural causes, according to archived reports. The nine accidental deaths that year included the overdoses (4), motor vehicle (3), one fire and one fall.
Styninger is expected to present his report to the Washington County Board at its Tuesday, Feb. 8, meeting.
