A 52-year-old woman was seriously injured and airlifted from the scene of an accident in Washington County on Tuesday evening.
According to the Illinois State Police, as reported by WJBD, preliminary investigation details state that Karen Blank of Coulterville was traveling east on Marissa Road in an SUV at 9:35 p.m. when she approached State Route 151. Police say the vehicle failed to yield at the stop intersection and traveled into oncoming traffic, striking a northbound semi truck that was driven by Bradley Schnitker of Hoyleton.
Her SUV then spun out of control and struck the front of a southbound SUV driven by 82-year-old Thomas Welch of Sparta.
Blank was transported by a medical helicopter to a regional hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries. Schnitker and Welch each reported no injuries.
Blank was also ticketed for failure to yield to a stop intersection and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
